I remember choking BT2 Moustardi till he was purple. He was hitting me and calling me names, I choked him till he hit the deck and gave up....the bad side we were underway, I was standing burners watch, and he was the top watch. He always thought I was a whimp because I didn't fight or drink in excess. He never bothered me again...

Bill (tommy) Thompson IC3/served on the
Big 'D'(64-67). Please tell me if I'm
wrong. I'll explain why later. I read the ships history and I believe one Med. cruise was left out. I believe that after the St. Damingo cruise we returned to home port.   After a short stay we went to the Med. Our frist port was Barcelona Sp.   Later we were in Naples, as I turned 19yrs there.

Another missing segment of history was when we were in either Danang or Camron Bay, a communications van was anchored to our fan tail. I think it was Army Intel or NSA not sure. We motored in stern first into Hyphong Harbor so that they could ease drop out N.Vietman radio traffic. Just before sunrise we,d slowly motor out and dump trash, until the next nite.   During the daytime the guys in the com. van would patch up with a stateside ham radio op. and we could call home.   Big dummy I was I'd forgotten my mom's home number.   Back to what I said at the start, time fades memories, 'BUT' after having a major heart attack and dying several times I often wonder if it's possible to come to in a parallel time? Maybe these things happened in my other universe. OK the cats out of the bag now so you all stay healthy so we can attend many reunions to come...

Tim, Call me crazy, but we went thur a typhon in the Bay of Bengal around late august or early sept.'66'. We took a 46 degree roll and lost the P-boat and some rafts on the starboard side, and we also lost the after electrical switch-   board which almost put us dead in the water. The Stickill Lost its Mt. 51 completety. This is why we ended up going to Panang India. I'm sure it was this late in the year becauce we arrived in the states just before Thanksgiving '66'
Also does anyone remember the fire in the aft. gun directors electrical trunk,

You were a real short timer then too (Tim). I hated to see you go. We went westpac in '66'. We knew something was up when we were in Boston Nav. Shipyard, and 30 cal. stantions were being welded to the main deck. So long ago yet like yesterday.

I have many great memories from my 2 tours aboard DAVIS - 1st tour '67 to '69, including a WESPAC cruise, and the 2nd tour after the FRAMM conversion from SW to ASW. I've built on the skills and traits learned in the Navy and used them with my service in Military Sealift Command, and now supporting Marine units in Iraq with C4ISR systems. What a life I've been blessed with - and it started on DAVIS!

Keith E. Littlefield was my brother. He passed away in 1997 or 1998. He picked up some weird infection that went into his heart. He was busy working on his buddies boat on the weekend and in a coma by the next weekend. Jack Paige was at his funeral. Jack is a lawyer outside of Chicago somewhere. Hope this helps.
